ART STATEMENT
Vision Charter School is an advocate of the arts. We believe students will achieve greater success in all academic curricula if classrooms incorporate art throughout the year. Art builds self-esteem and instills life-skills, such as, reasoning, decision-making, creative thinking, problem-solving, and visualizing.

Faith Ringgold

Please visit Faith Ringgold's website and read about the inspired artist that will be our Master of the Month for February.

On the first Thursday in March, you have the wonderful opportunity of meeting Faith Ringgold, our February Master-of-the-Month. She will be at the Egyptian Theatre for a two hour presentation starting at 6:00 p.m.

This exhibition highlights the paintings, drawings, prints, story quilts, and soft sculpture of internationally known African-American artist, writer and educator Faith Ringgold.

In the 1980's Ringgold began making story quilts, an art form that combines storytelling and quilt making with genre painting. Through her brightly colored imagery and mixed media, she examines a broad range of social and political issues. By the 1990's she had become one of the foremost progressive American artists of the twentieth century and a successful author. Ringgold has written and illustrated nine children's books, including "Tar Beach" that has won more than 30 awards including the Caldecott Honor and the Coretta Scott King award. Experience Faith Ringgold: Mama Can Sing, Papa Can Blow and try soft sculpture in the art studio on March 6th as well.

There is also an exhibit including art from Mexico which includes some of Diego Rivera's works (our first Master of the Month this year). Check out the Family Art Saturday programs as well. We are excited about the fact that our Master of the Month program coordinates with some of the current exhibits at BAM, and hope our students will have the chance to view them.

There are some field trips in the planning stage as well.
