     Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome back to the New Year!  This week has been amazing and I am so blessed to have such an amazing group of kids.  They have been working really hard as second quarter comes to an end next week, and we are finishing up some last minute assessments.  You should be very proud of how well they have done…

I would like to remind you of a few items.  Please order hot lunches from the 12th-26th of each month.  NO school next Friday, January 13 or Monday, January 16.  Report cards will be going home the week of the 16th.  I will be sending home a lot of information with the report card.  There will be a copy of any assessment your child took if they received an N in any sub-category in math.  If they receive an M I will not be sending a copy home.  I will be sending a Stars test parent letter along with the report card.  Please make sure your child is reading within their individualized reading range.

Continue reading with your child every night. Winter IRI is coming up and your child needs to be reading at least 77 wpm to be at grade level.  By the end of the year they need to be reading at least 92 wpm.

Third Quarter:  We are going to be studying insects and your child will be having an at home project to create a habitat for their insect.  Please do not start this yet.  I will be sending out a lot more information in the next few weeks.  This would be a great opportunity for you to start talking to your child about insects and having them start choosing an insect they may be interested in making and studying.  I would like each child to bring in 2 rolls of aluminum wrap and 1 roll of brown masking tape to help make their insects.

Book Reports:  Your child will be choosing a book to do a report on in the next few weeks.  They will have several weeks to complete it.  More information to come, along with the book your child is doing their report on.
