Week of October 18th through 20th, 2010
This week:
• Math Concepts~ Patterns, counting by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, and simple adding.
• Starting to learn sight words: I, see, a, the, can, me and like.
The little sight word readers your child brings home are great to save and practice reading. We always use our tracking finger to touch the words so that we are continually practicing our sight words for more instant recognition.
• Centers: working on letters and letter sounds, math, computers, listening center, art and play. **On Monday and Wednesday for the next two weeks we will have Music at 12:50pm with First grade so they can practice for their performance. So we will not do Centers on Monday, Oct. 18th; Wednesday, Oct. 20th; Monday, Oct. 25th and Wednesday, Oct 27th.
• Handwriting Without Tears with Mrs. Burton.
Homework this week:
• Please send your child’s water bottle or cup back to school on Monday mornings. It will come home on Fridays to be washed.
• Read for at least 10 minutes a night and write it down on September calendar. You can read to your child, share the reading or listen to your child read to you. September calendars are due October 4th.
Specials:
• Mondays and Wednesdays: Music we will practice with first grade this week and next for our performance.
• Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: PE (please wear appropriate shoes)
Calendar:
• October 22nd: NO SCHOOL K-10th
• October 27th & 28th: Parent Teacher Conferences. Please return signup sheet as soon as possible. I will schedule appointments as the conference return slips are turned in.

A Fun, Fantastic, Fall Festival, performed by kindergarten and 1st grade:
Nov. 2 at 11:30 in the music room
Nov. 3 at 1:00 in the music room
Please plan on attending only one performance in order to give all who wish to attend the opportunity to have a seat. Older siblings wishing to watch may be checked out by parents for the program and then checked back in. We look forward to seeing you there. The date is different than was earlier announced. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. ~Mrs. Ellis, Music
