Week of November 1st through 5th, 2010

This week:

  • Handwriting Without Tears with Mrs. Burton.
  • Working on word families such as “at” cat, bat, rat.
  • Beginning journal writing
  • Making sight word rings which are flashcards of the sight words the students can use to practice and refer to when writing.
  • Finishing our Wind in the Willows book.  Celebration on Friday. Your child may dress up as one of the characters from our book if they would like to.  Being creative and just using a few things to make a costume should be inexpensive and fun!  Even a little face paint makes students feel in character.  Characters in the book have been Rat, Mole, Badger and Mr. Toad.  We will celebrate the book and the harvest time of year.
  • Math Concept board: counting, number recognition, money and addition.

Homework this week:

  • Please send your child’s water bottle or cup back to school on Monday mornings.  It will come home on Fridays to be washed.
  • Read for at least 10 minutes a night and write it down on September calendar.  You can read to your child, share the reading or listen to your child read to you.  October calendars are due November 3rd.

Specials:

  • Mondays and Wednesdays:  Music
  • Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays:  PE  (please wear appropriate shoes)

  • Nov. 3 at 1:00 in the music room     A Fun, Fantastic, Fall Festival, performed by kindergarten and 1st grade:

***Please plan on attending only one performance in order to give all who wish to attend the opportunity to have a seat.  Older siblings wishing to watch may be checked out by parents for the program and then checked back in. We look forward to seeing you there.  The date is different than was earlier announced.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. ~Mrs. Ellis, Music

It is turning very cold outside and students are outside until 8:15 am and also during a 30 minute recess therefore they really need to be dressed for the weather. They are very cold when they come in.  Please send your child to school with a warm coat and even gloves and a hat help them stay warm, healthy and happy while they are outside.  Thank you for helping!
