Donations of new or like new items are needed for our class auction next week. The focus of this auction is to provide the students with the opportunity to "buy" Christmas gifts for family and friends. I will "pay" students $300 in Tigger Bucks for each item they bring in to donate to the auction.
FYI: The LATE WORK POLICY changes at the end of this quarter/semester on Jan. 13 to the middle school policy. Unexcused late work will NOT be accepted for credit and will automatically be scored as zero.
The microwave in the classroom is for staff and science use only. Please do not send food that needs to be heated. Thank you.
We are studying about the Civil War and for the next several days we will be learning all about the war, President Lincoln, causes of the war, during the war and after the war. Later on after we have a better understanding of the war, I will assign a certain event to a group of kids. They will then do a more in depth research about that specific event and write a play/performance to teach the rest of the kids. This will be performed after Christmas and will be a big part of their Social Studies grade. I will give you more information after the holidays!

Dear Students and Parents,
Just a note to let you know that progress reports are being sent home today. Please inquire when your child gets home. (smile)
Our class has been earning group points (since August) based on being on task, organization and following directions quickly. The goal was to earn a total of 250 points (and a party), and we met the goal this week. Therefore, our party is this Friday (December 10), and it will be a day of "educational" fun!
Students can (if desired):

The Meridian Symphony is hosting a solo competition for instrumentalists (including piano players). There is a monetary prize and the potential for getting to perform with the symphony in the spring. There are two divisions, one for 8th grade and younger and one for 9th through 12th grade. The competition takes place in January. If you are interested, please contact me for more information, rules, and the application form. They only allow 40 people to compete, so the sooner you apply, the better your chances!

Your child’s Home Folder needs to be taken home every evening and returned every school day. Please help your child become responsible for this. They will receive class money for bringing it every day and pay a fine if they do not.

Only two weeks are left until Christmas Break! This year is going way too fast for me!
Thursday we will be taking our pretest for spelling. We have added phonograms for our spelling tests instead of syllables for the next few months. It is important for all of our 4th graders to know all 70 of the phonograms before going to 5th grade. We will be going over the syllables for each word, but not testing on them.
4th and 5th graders need recorders for the program. We are about 5 short. If anyone can donate, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
